Substance-related and addictive disorders: disorders associated with the abuse of drugs and other substances which alter how people may think, feel and behave. Impulse-control disorder: involve the inability to resist acting on a drive or a temptation. Substance chemical compounds which are ingested in order to alter mood or behaviour, while psychoactive substances: alter mood, behaviour or both. Drug use: involves the ingestion of drugs on occasion and moderation such that they do not interfere with one"s life. Substance intoxication: physiological reaction to ingested substances often involves impaired judgement, mood changes and lowered motor control. Substance abuse: defined in terms of the extent of interference in one"s life helps draw the line between use and abuse. Patterns of withdrawal and when it is reached differs from one drug to the other. Withdrawal form alcohol can cause dts delirium tremens [hallucinations and tremors]
