Document Summary
Scientific method a technique for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, and/or correcting previous knowledge. Hypothesis a testable prediction about the conditions under which an event will occur; educated guess. The research process helps us find objective answers to questions about why people think, feel, and behave as they do. Social psychology a scientific study of the way in which a person"s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by the real world, imagined, or implied presence of others. Three distinct, but inter-related topics that social psychologists address: how we think about ourselves self-perception how our views of ourselves depend on our sociocultural environment. Ex: intentions to use condo do not always translate into actual condom use. Condom use when participants had last had sex was higher among those who had received a bracelet than among those who had just seen the video about drunk driving. Bracelet remained effective even when participants were under the influence of alcohol.
