The role of experiments in gathering evidence: demonstrating cause and effect. Experiment study in which an independent variable is manipulated. The most powerful way of doing mainly because it eliminates the chance of alternative explanations. There could be other variables that yield to the same results. We can gather data to support a hypothesis but we can"t rule out other explanations. There is no clear cut cause and effect relationship between events and human behaviour. The dv is the variable whose changes depend on the manipulated of the iv.
