Document Summary

Module 47 humanistic theories and trait theories. Humanistic theories view personality with a focus on the potential for healthy personal growth. Self actualization according to maslow, one of the ultimate psychological needs that arises after basic physical and psychological needs are met and self-esteem is achieved, the motivation to fulfil ones potential. Maslow studied healthy creative people and saw that they shared certain characteristics. They were self-aware, self-accepting, loving, open, spontaneous and etc. Carl rodgers was also a humanistic theorist who theorized that all people are basically good and are endowed with self-actualizing tendencies. It is a profound relief to drop out pretences, confess out worsts feelings, and discover that we are still accepted: empathy- when people are empathetic, they share and mirror others feelings and reflect their meanings. Rogers said that these 3 factors help people grow , and create a caring and positive attitude towards themselves. The central feature of personality is ones self-concept.
