Document Summary

Module 7 the cerebral cortex and the divided brain. New neural networks in the cerebrum do work such as perceiving, thinking, and speaking. Divided into two hemispheres which are covered by the cerebral cortex. Cerebral cortex the intricate fabric of interconnected neural cells covering the cerebral hemispheres: body"s ultimate information control and processing center. Hemisphere is made up of axons that connect to different parts of the brain. Consists of 4 lobes: frontal, parietal, occipital, temporal. Each lobe has a specific function, and actions can only be done when that part of the brain is stimulated. The back of the frontal lobe is associated with motor function making parts of the body move. The understanding of how the lobe works has allowed us to make cognitive neural prosthetics by measuring the stimuli of the brain through the implantation of electrodes. This new technology is helping people who have been paralyzed or have lost a limb to work again.
