Document Summary
Theory an explanation using an integrated set of principles that organizes observations and predicts behaviours or events. Hypothesis ta testable prediction, often implied by a theory. Operational definition a carefully worded statement of the exact procedures used in a research study. For example: human intelligence may be operationally defined as what an intelligence test measures. Another example would be sleep deprivation is x less hours than a person"s normal/natural sleep. There are 3 methods of testing the hypothesis and refining theories: descriptive methods. Researches observe and describe people/theories in systematic ways through. Case studies a descriptive technique in which one individual or group is studied in depth in the hope of revealing universal principals. These studies are made to draw general conclusions about a large population and the results often lead to other directions for study. Naturalistic observation a descriptive technique of observing and recording behaviour in naturally occurring situations without trying to manipulate and control the situation.
