Document Summary
We are good at reading nonverbal cues, especially threats. Hard to control facial muscles reveal signs of emotions. We find it difficult to detect deceiving expressions. Women generally surpass men at reading people"s emotional cues, assessments of male- female couple genuine or not, who in photo is person"s supervisor. Women"s nonverbal sensitivity helps explain greater emotional literacy. People attribute women"s emotionality to disposition + men"s to their circumstances. Women more likely to express empathy, experience emotional events more deeply. Facial expressions + musical expressions are generally the same. Blind people who have never seen smiles still smile to show happiness. William james believed we can control emotions by going through the outwards movements of any emotion we want to experience. Expressions communicate emotion but also amplify + regulate it. How we act on outside makes us feel better on inside, how we feel is how we perceive. Acting as another helps us feel what another feels.
