Document Summary
Attitudes affect behavior when external influences are minimal, and attitude is stable, specific to behavior + easily recalled. Foot-in-the-door phenomenon: tendency for people who have first agreed to a small request to comply later with a larger request. Role: set of expectations (norms) about a social position, defining how those in the position ought to behave. Cognitive dissonance theory: theory that we act to reduce discomfort (dissonance) we feel when 2 of our thoughts are inconsistent. When attitudes/actions clash, we reduce the resulting dissonance by changing our attitudes. We rationalize if i chose to do it, i must believe in it .
