Document Summary
Social psychologists: the scientific study of how we think about, influence, and relate to one another. They study the influences that explain why the same person will act differently in different situations. When we explain our own behavior, we are sensitive to how behavior changes within the situation. Most likely to commit the fundamental attribution error when a stranger acts badly. Eg. a parent yells at a child and you think they are bad, but outside the store they could be a great parent. Our attributions to a person"s disposition or to the situation have real consequences. Attitudes are feelings, often influenced by our beliefs that predispose us to respond in a particular way to objects, people and events. If we believe someone is threatening, we feel fear and anger towards the person and act defensively. Peripheral route persuasion: occurs when people are influenced by incidental cues such as a speaker"s attractiveness.
