Document Summary

Module 24 storage: retaining information in the brain. Theory: the brain starts out as an empty attic, but once it becomes full, there is no way you can add new stuff, so when new memories come in, older memories are pushed out. However a capacity for storing long-term memories is limitless. Despite the brain"s vast storage capacity, we do not store information as libraries store their books (in specific places) instead many parts of the brain interact as we encode, store and retrieve the information that forms our memories. Person who is blind that is a pianst can still play music without seeing, even songs that they did 20 years ago. The network that process and stores your explicit memories includes your frontal lobes and hippocampus. explicit memories: memory of facts and experiences that one can consciously know and declare. (also known as declarative memory)
