Document Summary

Module 2 - thinking critically with psychological science. 3 roadblocks to critical thinking: hindsight bias: when separate groups are given false or misleading information that may appear the common truth, however are complete opposites of a general statement. When opposite findings = common sense = problem. Not what will happen: overconfidence: human beings feel that they know more than they actually do. Prediction of events when they don"t happen. The reason why we feel that they were meant to be together is because everybody has certain character traits and personalities that define their individuality. With large sample, any event is possible. Scientific method: a self-correcting process for evaluating ideas with observation and analysis. Theory: explains behaviours or events by offering ideas that organize observation. Hypotheses: are test predictions that specify what results would support the theory, and what results would disconfirm the theory.
