Document Summary

Dreams are mental experiences during rem sleep that have a story - like quality, include vivid visual imagery, are often bizarre, and are regarded as perceptually real by the dreamer. Unfold in familiar settings without a cast of characters dominated by family, friends, and colleagues. Dreams tend to centre on classic sources of internal conflict. What people dream about is affected by what is going on in their lives. The content of dreams can also be affected by stimuli experienced while one is dreaming. Lucid dream which people can think clearly about the circumstances of waking life and the fact that they are dreaming, yet they remain asleep in the midst of a lucid dream. Basically knowing you are sleeping while dreaming. People fulfill ungratified needs from waking hours through wishful thinking in dreams. Manifest content - the plot of a dream at the surface level. Latent content = hidden/ disguised meaning of events in the plot.
