Document Summary

Dissociative disorders: controversial & rare, when your conscious awareness separates from previous memories, thoughts & feelings. When we face trauma, dissociative detachment may protect us from being overwhelmed by emotion. Dissociative identity disorder (did): formerly called multiple personality disorder; a rare dissociation in which a person exhibits two or more distant and alternating personalities, both unaware of the other. Skeptics: did is a condition constructed out of the therapist-patient interaction and acted out by fantasy-prone, emotionally vulnerable patients. Did is a result of ptsd & repression of anxiety/trauma. (many recall child abuse) Personality disorders: in exible & enduring behavior patterns that impair social functioning. Avoidant personality disorder: anxiety, fear of rejection, socially withdrawn. Schizotypal personality disorder: strange/odd behavior such as emotionless. Antisocial personality disorder: usually a male, lack of conscience for wrongdoing, fearless, may be aggressive/ruthless/criminal. (however not all criminals have this because some actually show concern for their friends & family members) Increased risk when relatives have antisocial disorder.
