The man/woman on the street is probably the least competent to carry out of to understand
what was once a technically difficult field: diagnostic medicine. The pharmacist is the first
person the public will approach for help. These kits are controlled by Health Canada and
the manufacturer must demonstrate that lay tester obtain results comparable to those
obtained in a professional lab, however, laboratory testing involves more than just
getting the right results, must also Judge and Interpret.
Issues when interpreting lab data:
▪ methodology is FALLIBLE
▪ interpretation of lab results assumes the user has reasonable understanding of
biostatistics
