Music is defined as organised sound that is meaningful to people within a specific time and place. We rarely experience solute silence since the basic processes of our bodies and nervous systems produce a constant sonic backdrop to our existence. Many traditions identify music as organised sound that has a tune or melody however some of the venda people in south africa music is believed to be founded not on melody but on rhythmical stirring of the whole body. The katajjaq hamma - combination of four types of vocal sounds which when repeated produce a series of short patterns (canadian central arctic, siberia, and japan sing like that) is based on the fast inhalation and exhalation of breath. That breathing enables two additional sounds- the voiced and voiceless sound. The vocal cords produce voiced sounds when they vibrate while being pressed together and produce voiceless sound when being held apart.
