Outer layer called epidermis contains germinal layer which produces new skin cells and sebum. Dermis is the middle layer that has sweat glands, blood vessels, nerve endings and hair follicles. Deepest layer, subcutaneous tissue, mainly made up of fat. Whenever skin is damaged a lesion appears; these are identified by their size and depth. Typically caused by a staphylococcal or streptococcal infection. Circumscribed collection of pus (acute/chronic) localized infection. Cavity formed by liquefaction necrosis within solid tissue& can affect any tissue of body. Tissue destruction; lesion appears as encapsulated pocket of pus. Caused by excessive sebum production secondary to hormonal imbalance, abnormal follicular keratinization, proliferation of this bacteria and inflammation. Obstructed follicle becomes black or white head; pimple occurs when things break out of white heads. Onychia is inflammation of matrix of nail plate; paronychia only lateral border or nail fold and often seen in individuals whose hands frequently immersed in water or mud.
