Must provide references for all sources of factual info cited in the paper. References allow knowledge to accumulate in a structured fashion so future researchers can trace info to its source. This info is used by reviewer when evaluating manuscript and publisher to help. See page 47 of chapter 3 in readings for details keep organized during production of report. Some journals compiled annually by volume number and journal issue number, some only use volume number. When page # of journal run consecutively for an entire year, only volume number necessary.
