Document Summary

E(cid:374)doplas(cid:373)ic reticulu(cid:373) (cid:894)er(cid:895: it"s a lipid & protei(cid:374) asse(cid:373)(cid:271)ly, smooth & rough er are connected. Have many interconnected channels: amount of smooth & rough er depends on type & activity of cell, types of endoplasmic reticulum, smooth er, rough er. Membrane walls of smooth er contains enzymes for synthesis of lipids: in liver, smooth er contains enzymes that detoxify harmful substances produced by body or those that have entered body through drugs. Enzymes alter toxic substances to allow them to be readily be eliminated in urine. Transport vesicles: newly synthesized molecules from smooth er enter golgi, vesicle fuses w/membrane of sac- contents are released to interior of sac. Secretory vesicles: finished products pinch off to form a membrane enclosed vesicle containing finished product, vesicles are specific to products they transport, vesicles have different surface protein markers- docking markers. They recognize & transport to areas within cell that have docking marker acceptor.
