Levels of organization in organismal complexity: protoplasmic level- unicellular organisms. All functions of life confined to a single call. Within each cell organelles perform specialized functions: cellular level- colonial organization denotes an aggregation of undifferentiated cells, whereas multicellular organization denotes an an aggregation of cells that are functionally differentiated(ex. Symmetry- balanced proportions vs. asymmetry- not divided into identical halves. Spherical symmetry-any plane passing through the centre divided body into mirrored halves. Radial symmetry- forms that can be divided into similar halves by more than 2 planes passing through the longitudinal axis. Bilateral symmetry- animals that can be divided along a sagittal plane into 2 mirrored portions. Distal- parts that are further from the middle of the body. Proximal- parts near the middle of the body. Frontal plane- divides a bilateral body into the dorsal and ventral planes. Sagittal plane-plane that divides an animal into right and left halves.
