Document Summary

Cellular respiration: collection of metabolic reactions inside cells that break down food molecules (i. e. carbohydrates, fats, proteins) and uses free energy to synthesize atp. Atp: chemical energy required for many anabolic (biosynthetic) reactions inside cell. Photosynthesis: source of carbon compounds full of energy found in food molecules. Process of using light energy to take out electrons from water; combine electrons with hydrogen to reduce co2 into glucose (carbohydrate); carbohydrates are used to synthesize proteins and fats. The more electronegative an atom, the greater the force that holds the electrons to that atom; the greater the energy required to remove that electron from the atom. 6. 1b coupled redox reactions are central to energy metabolism. Oxidation [of molecule]: occurs when the fuel molecules lose electrons when their potential energy is released. Many reactions where electrons are removed from fuel molecules have oxygen as the atom that accepts the electrons and gets reduced.
