Aboriginal people enabled newcomers to travel by providing canoes, dog sleds, kayaks, snowshoes, information for maps. They taught newcomers to feed themselves; how to make maple syrup and pemmican and how to grow crops (beans, corn, sunflowers and squash) 17th and 18th century, they helped whoever governed canada to stave off the forces from what is now the united states. War of 1812- aboriginals presence (mohawk, ojibwa, wyandot) was critical to the survival of canada.
