Business ethics is not simply a societal concern it has increasingly become an organizational issue that demands urgent attention. Ethics: is the study of morality or moral judgements, standards, and rules of conduct. Business ethics: the rules, standards, principles or codes giving guidelines for morality right behaviour in certain contexts. Unethical behaviour: behaviour that in some way has a harmful effect on others and is either illegal or morally unacceptable to the larger community. A situation can have an ethical dimension, where the consequences of an individual"s decision affects the interests, welfare, or expectations of others. The social aspect of ethics is also reflected in theories of ethics, such as categorical imperative. Categorical imperative: the assertion by philosopher immanuel kant that moral actions are, by definition actions that respect others. What is defined as ethical or unethical behaviour represents a judgement based on a referent structure.
