Individual posting week 1: my musical values influence my definition of music based on my emotions in the moment. Music heightens my mood at any moment and is a way to express emotion; for example, when i am sad i listen to slow, acoustic songs and when i am happy i listen to an upbeat style. I find music extremely powerful and listening to one song over another can change my mood instantly: i think musical meaning is your own personal definition of music. It is what music stands/represents to you with regards to the meaning behind certain lyrics and what the artist/song is trying to describe. Musical function on the other hand is what the music"s purpose is from the artist"s perspective. For example, hearing an artist play music live is generally much more powerful and moving then listening to the same song/artist just through headphones or speakers.
