Family-based form of economic production was one where the household was the basic unit of the economy, because economic production was largely based on households (farms, plantations) Little distinction between economic and domestic life. Work of women and men was interdependent-both seen as contributing to productivity. White women"s labour dependent on their class and marital status. Single women worked in other households (i. e. , sewing)-white women in these households would supervise the household work (i. e. , the labour of slaves and children) Black women in slavery did most of the same jobs as men, but also wok in the owners" homes and on behalf of their own families. Transition to capitalism caused the family-wage economy to emerge. Shifted the center of labour from the household to the factory system. Resulted from the industrialization that began in england in the mid-18th century. Workers earned their living outside the home. Led to development of dual roles for women as paid laborers and unpaid housewives.
