Psychological changes: what goes up must come down - ability to learn new material and to think quickly decline, become more engaged with their own thoughts and emotions, and become less materialistic. Age strati cation: age is a basis for social ranking. Gives little power and prestige to elderly people. Finding meaning: assessing their lives, re ecting on their past, and remembering both disappointments and accomplishments as they realize that their lives are nearing an end.
