Participant observation, or fieldwork: researcher observes and records what is happening in that setting. Qualitative or field interview also is referred to as a structured conversation. Casual conversations, allowing researchers to receive the answers to their studies. Secondary analysis, researchers analyze data that has already been collected by others. Researchers examine sources such as films, photographs, bank records, immigration files, etc. Unobtrusive measures is when you observe the behaviour of others who do not know they are being studied. Qualitative research methods: observing, describing, and interpreting peoples behaviour. Validity: extent to which operational definitions measure what they are intended to measure. Reliability: refers to the extent of which different studies result in similar results.
