PS295 Chapter Notes - Chapter 13: Time Series, Repeated Measures Design, Quasi
Time Series Designs
-changes in IV that may be attributed to extraneous variables is addressed by a set of
procedures known as time series designs
-these measure the DV on several occasions before and on several occasions after the quasi
independent variable occurs
-by measuring target behaviour on several occasions we can see whether changes in DV
coin precicle with introduction of the QI variable
Simple interrupted time series design:
-taking several pretest measures before introducing IV/QI variable and then taking several
posttest measures afterward
O1 O2 O3 O4 X O5 O6 O7 O8
-repeated measures interrupted by occurence of X
-allows us to measure effects of QI variable against backdrop of other changes that may be
occurring in DV
-ex distinguish changes due to aging or maturation from changes due to QI
-central threat is contemporary history: we cannot rule out possibility that effects were due
to another event that occurred at the same time as the QI variable
Document Summary
Changes in iv that may be attributed to extraneous variables is addressed by a set of procedures known as time series designs. These measure the dv on several occasions before and on several occasions after the quasi independent variable occurs. By measuring target behaviour on several occasions we can see whether changes in dv coin precicle with introduction of the qi variable. Taking several pretest measures before introducing iv/qi variable and then taking several posttest measures afterward. O1 o2 o3 o4 x o5 o6 o7 o8. Allows us to measure effects of qi variable against backdrop of other changes that may be occurring in dv. Ex distinguish changes due to aging or maturation from changes due to qi. Central threat is contemporary history: we cannot rule out possibility that effects were due to another event that occurred at the same time as the qi variable.
