Document Summary

Associative learning can be said to have taken place when there is a change in an animal"s behaviour as a result of one event being paired with another. There have been two methods that have contributed to associative learning: 1. Where two events that are paired together are a neutral cs and a biologically significant us: 2. Which a response is made by the animal constitutes one event, and the outcome of that response constitutes the second event. Excitatory conditioning: training in which a conditioned stimulus sifnals the occurrence of an unconditioned stimulus. Inhibitory conditioning: training in which a conditioned stimulus signals the absence of an unconditioned stimulus. The subject (normally a rabbit), is retrained in a stock or harness, and a number of light wait sensors are placed near its eye. Condition consists of presentation of relatively brief cs (tone), followed by a mild shock to the cheek: most cases the shock will cause a blink.
