PS101 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Statistical Inference, Descriptive Statistics, Frequency Distribution
Document Summary
Descriptive statistics: used to describe and summarize data. Inferential statistics: used to draw conclusions about research data. Statistics are used in psychology to summarize data. People may use multiple descriptive techniques to summarize data. Ungrouped frequency distribution: count of number of times each speci c data point or score appears in a data set. Create a table with column according to what you are examining. Grouped frequency distribution: a count of number of times speci c data points fall into a range of clues in a data set. Create a number of ranges, or classes of scores to serve as basis of distribution. Histograms: a bar chart showing the number times data points fall in a range of values in a data set. Horizontal axis (x-axis) contains an ordered listing of various values for scores of ungrouped frequency distribution. Vertical axis (y-axis) provides frequency of those scores.
