Freedom- the ability to act as one wants without interference, restraints, or coercion. Negative freedom- freedom from coercion, no restraints when experiencing negative freedom. Person has a range of choices without interference from the state or authority. The state is there to provide the means and the conditions for all people to make meaningful choices. Utilitarianism- the view that human seek to maximize pleasure and minimize pain and the government should act to achieve the greatest happiness for the greatest members. Economic freedom- adam smith: a free and competitive economy most efficient way of producing goods and services and maximizing total wealth of the community. Role of government in economy should be limited to infrastructure and education. Equality of outcome- society decides to put forward programs to help those who have less, to equalize equality. Affirmative action- even though society has given access to certain things, they are not truly accessible.
