Anthrax and faith no more began to employ rap passages in heavy rock context. Blended hard driving rock with mostly rapped vocals to establish new stylistic model. Musically drew from chili pepper"s blend of funk grooves and heavy metal riffs. Tom morello"s innovative guitar playing blended metal, blues rock and jazz and at times imitated sound of dj scratching. Getting heavy: korn, limp bizkit, system of a down, and kid rock. Brought sound of seven string guitar into rap rock. Guitar had been used by handful of jazz guitarists over years to make wider range of notes available.
