However, through research on the transport of pollutants it is apparent that this region is also experiencing impacts from chemical waste such as ddt and pcbs. Two important ones include the transport of the chemicals from the south through a process known as the grasshopper effect (the name used to describe how the pollutants are able to travel) The second concern is the transfer of toxins through the food chain through the process of biomagnification. The variation between individuals within a species is known as genetic diversity.
