Document Summary

To measure u. s. urban air quality, the epa uses a air quality index (aqi). Urban smog is frequent in la because it"s so dense. Photochemical smog is caused by pollutants that chemically reacts in sunlight to form new substances. The united states attempts to control emissions from mobile sources have been inefficient. To provide structure to our evaluation of their issues we focus our analysis on the following characteristics. Absence of benefit-cost analysis in setting standards for tailpipe emissions: used benefit-based objectives, did not take into consideration cost of these. Uniformity of auto emissions standards: disregards the location where the vehicle is operated. Could be dirty, could be clean doesn"t make sense to use a uniform standard: solution is to have two sets of standards based on the degree of pollution in that area.
