Document Summary

Chapter 12: behind the scenes networking and security. What advantages do businesses gain from networks: network enable expensive resources to be shared, networks facilitate knowledge sharing, networks enable sotware sharing, networks enable enhanced communicaion. What are the disadvantages: network administrators: have training in computer and peripheral maintenance and repair, networking design, and installaion of networking sotware, operaing a network requires special equipment and sotware. Client/server network: contains servers as well as client computers. Many tasks that individual users must handle on a p2p network can be handled centrally at the server in a client/server network: client/server networks are said to be centralized, p2p networks are considered decentralized. Businesses use client/server networks because the data low is much more eicient: p2p networks become diicult to administer when there are 10+ users. Client/server networks also have increased scalability: more users can be added easily without afecing the performance of the other network nodes.
