Every org has a set of values that characterize how ppl behave and how org carries out everyday business. Job org leaders need to instill and support the kind of values needed for the company to thrive. Clarity of measurement: how do i know i did a good job. Clarity of structure: where do i fit in with the company. Culture has two levels: visible artifacts and observable the way ppl dress, act, symbols, stories etc on the surface reflect deeper values in mind of org members, underlying values, assumption, beliefs and thought processes true culture. Interpreting culture artifacts can be studied but are hard to decipher accurately: rites and ceremonies. Important artifacts for cultures: elaborate, planned activiites that make up special events for benefit of audience, create bond to sharing important understandings anoint heros who symbolize important beliefs and activities.
