Lean producion jit in a broad sense, is a philosophy of waste reducion and coninuous improvement. Takt time the maximum ime allowed at each workstaion to complete its set of tasks on a unit. Process design can increase producion lexibility in a variety of ways: Cross-train workers so they can help others facing over-capacity. Use many small machines rather than few large machines. Poka-yoke any mechanism that helps an equipment operator avoid mistakes. Its purpose is to eliminate product defects by prevening, correcing, or drawing atenion to human errors as they occur. Autonomaion intelligent automaion: if an abnormal situaion arises, the machine automaically stops, prevening producion of defecive products. Jidoka japanese term for quality at the source: avoid passing defecive products to the following workstaion, and stop and ix the problem.
