Many decisions must be made before job scheduling: strategic planning (e. g. capacity, aggregate planning (e. g. selection and training, master production scheduling, material requirements planning. Shop-floor control execution of the schedule; maintaining, communicating, and monitoring the status of material, orders, and process; and taking any necessary actions. Forward scheduling scheduling ahead, beginning from the start date of a job. Backward scheduling scheduling by working backwards from the due date: mrp does this. Loading the assignment of jobs to work centres and to various machines within each work centre. Easy in cases where a job can be processed only by a specific line/machine. Challenging when multiple jobs are to be processed, and multiple work centres are capable to perform the jobs.
