Union: organizational with legal authority to represent workers, negotiate the terms and conditions of employment with and employer, and administer the collective agreement. Relationship between employer and union is a major factor in predicating firm"s performance. Union places limits on the role of hrm. Unions are cause by management that workers perceive as unfair. Collective agreement: known as the rule book, negotiated between the union and the employer, addresses issues such as wages, hours, working conditions etc. No single force that motivates people to join union. Union push explanation: some employees are pushed/forced into joining a union because of employee treatment, peer pressure, or collective agreement provisions that make the employee join. Union pull explanation: employees are pulled into unions because of the benefits of union representation, ie. higher wages, better benefits. 3 facts that influence the desire for an individual to join a union: job dissatisfaction, individual attitudes towards unions, perceived union instrumentality.
