Personality is the relatively stable set of psychological characteristics that influences the way an individual interacts with his or her environment and how he or she feels, think, and behaves. It summarizes his or her personal style of dealing with the world. Many employees rank personality as more important than work experience and education while hiring. Although personality is relatively stable, it is certainly susceptible to change through adult learning experiences. In the 1950s and 1960s the use of personality tests for selection processes within business organizations became popular. Dispositional approach individuals possess stable traits or characteristics that influence their attitudes and behaviours. Individuals are predisposed to behave in certain ways. Research produced mixed and inconsistent findings that failed to support the usefulness of personality as a predictor of organizational behaviour and job performance.
