Document Summary

Receptors are proteins that receive dn interpret information carried by signalling molecules. No matter how far the distance a message is received by a responding cell when the signaling molecule binds to a receptor protein on or in the responding cell. Ligand-binding site: where the signaling molecule binds to the receptor protein. Signaling molecule binds only to a receptor with a ligand-binding site that recognizes the molecules. This always changes the conformation of the receptros. The change activates the receptor as it is through the change that message is passed from signaling moleucle t interior of cell. It triggers chemical reactions in the cytosol. Location of a receptor depends on whether signaling molecules is polar or non-polar. Many molecules are small and polar meaning proteins cannot pass through to hydrophobic core. Receptor protein for these signals are on outside surface of the responding cell.
