Four types of anthropology: cultural/social anthropology, biological/physical anthro, linguistic, archaeology. The study of development and comparison between languages. Archeology- the study of past culture physical remains. Culture- is the learned and shared knowledge that people use to generate behavior and interpret experience. Explicit culture- makes up part of what we know, a level of knowledge people can communicate about with relative ease. A culture that people are consciously aware of and talk about. Tacit culture- is culture knowledge that is outside our awareness. Culture that can only be viewed through cultural observation. Ethnography is the process of discovering and describing a particular culture. Doing research where you live among people whose culture you wish to learn and discover. Culture is portable and society is a relationship between people and places. Cultural imperialism means that certain dominate cultures press on weaker cultures like the united states and canada. Diffusion- means to borrow ideas from other cultures.
