12 mechanisms of radicalization are discussed in this article. Discuss mechanisms of radicalization relevant to understand the origins of terrorism. Mechanism: the means in manner in which something is accomplished. Radicalization means change in beliefs, feelings and behaviours in directions that increase intergroup violence and demand sacrifice in defence of the in-group. Radicalization and terrorism are made possible by bringing individuals into small groups. Sometimes groups are linked into larger organization. Small group is necessary for action, organization is not. Increasing time, money, risk-taking and violence in support of a political cause. Behavioural radicalization means increasing time, money, risk-taking and violence in support of a political group. One way of thinking about radicalization is that it is the gradient that distinguishes terrorists from their base of sympathizers. Also radicalized as members of small face-to-face groups. Twelve mechanisms at three levels: individual radicalization by personal victimization. Do not like how the government handled things; kills president: individual radicalization by political grievance.
