Research methods chapter 13 soc 2206 summer 2016. Field researchers study people in a location or setting or entire communities. Beginner researchers should start with a smaller group of maybe 30 or fewer who interact with each other on a regular basis. Small scale includes: a beauty salon, daycare centre, bakery, bingo parlour, church, police dispatch office. Ethnography: an approach to field research that emphasizes providing a very detailed description of a different culture from the viewpoint of an insider in that culture to permit a great understanding of it. Methodology: a collection of data and analysis approaches that are linked together through an overarching theoretical orientation. A field researcher uses many different methods to collect data. It is based on naturalism which involves researchers researching things in their natural, every day and ongoing social settings. Essential for researcher to be well organized and prepared for the field. Begins with a general topic and the researcher is not locked.
