Social research a process in which a researcher combines a set of principles, outlooks, and ideas with a collection of specific practices, techniques and strategies to produce knowledge. It requires persistence, integrity, interaction, and commitment. Social research is the best because it is known to be accurate with the least errors but alternatives can also be correct: authority. When you accept something as true because people of authority have told it to you (teachers, parents, authors) Limitations: it is quick, simple, and cheap, easy to overestimate the expertise of people, authorities may not agree, and they may not be equally dependable, authorities may speak on fields they know nothing about, tradition. Uses the case of authority- the past: common sense, media myths. You accept something as true because it"s the way its always been done". You rely on what everyone knows or what makes sense.
