Three changes have defined the schooled society that we live in today: a growth in modern schooling, the types and functions of education are increasing and becoming more diverse. Schooling has become an integral aspect of modern life. Socialization: provides training for later life, teaches morals. Selection: selects individuals by awarding them with badges of ability, based on bureaucracies. Legitimation: maintains social inequality, taught life skills. Education and social class: the education system has the potential to provide equal opportunities for everyone, however this is not the case.
