Sociology looks at the unequal distribution of among ethnic/racial groups. Assumption that race and ethnicity are an ascribed status born with it and cant be changed. Although physically true we do not have fixed racial characteristics or identities. Therefore is an achieved status (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) Assume all ethnic groups exist bc of ppls social attachments. Ppl posses bc of differences in language, culture, customs. Ethnic groups are made up of ppl who identify themselves as belonging to same cultural group. Cal ourselves canadian bc we have a sense of belonging. Humans are subdivided into distinct hereditary groups innately different in social behaviour and mental capacities o. Situation where referred to ppl not as inferior but culturally diff. Involves the beliefs that although races of ppl cannot be ranked biologically, they are diff from each other and social problems are created when different groups try to live together.
