Examples: development in reading/writing, cancer rates, depression levels, activities of daily living. Three types of social causes: human-environmental factors. Divisions like social class, occupation, and nationality can cause differences in the surroundings in which people live and work. Some environments are better than others: lifestyle factors. Smoking, excessive use of alcohol and drugs, poor diet, lack of exercise, and social isolation are among the chief lifestyles factors associated with health and premature death. These often lead to non-communicable diseases: lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, premature birth, neonatal death etc. Health care system: clinic, hospital, facilities that treat disease and illness. Public health system: government run programs that ensure access to clean water, basic sewage, sanitation, and inoculation against infectious disease.
