Psychology 3723F/G Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: Avoidant Personality Disorder, Operant Conditioning, Dependent And Independent Variables
Document Summary
Chapter 7 note behavioral influences on attitudes. Asked participants to learn about five interesting new puzzles. In one experimental condition, participants were asked to spend 20minutes playing with the puzzles and getting familiar with them. In another condition, participants were asked to read a sheet containing information about the puzzles. All participants then rated their attitudes toward the puzzles, after which the experimenter left the lab to perform a task. During the experimenters absence, the amount of time participants spent with the puzzles was recorded with a hidden camera. Participants were told to explore a map that contains good beans, which give energy and bad ones, which take away energy. Randomly selected patterns of shape and speckling are used to determine which beans are good and which beans are bad. Analyses of participants" explorations revealed an important result: participants learned significantly better about which beans were bad than about which beans were good.
