Purpose is to maintain the represeantaion lomg enough so we can recognize it. Or the process is automatic and cant stop by itself. Sematic which is when you can recall facts. Episodic is when you can recall personal events. 3-6 years after had major decay of information. 6-30 years had no further loss of information. 30-35 has another loss but was very small if information isn"t rehearsed it decays quickly the parts that don"t decay seem to be stable over time. More complicated images take more time to make. When someone ask you a question about an image. Use resolution zoom pan to find what you are looking for. If this is so then this theory cant be innate, universal and automatic. Pylyshyn says that participants aren"t using mental rotation in the mental rotation tak. They are using non analog or propositional means to carry out image transformation.
