Based in christian and other religions that mostly view sex as bad and have certain rules regarding sex. 1950s studies show that more people than originally thought actually participate in oral sex and masturbation. There are not a lot of studies on sexual disorders because they are not allowed to be studied. May not be statistically abnormal, but can still cause distress for some. Some may have different opinions on this making it difficult to have a set of diagnostic factors. Not all atypical things cause distress for the individual. Ex. paraphilia necessary, but not sufficient condition for having a paraphilic disorder, having paraphilia doesn"t necessarily require clinical intervention. Based on what we as a society as abnormal.
